Highlighting and Contouring
Posted on February 25, 2010
Do you ever wonder how celebrities keep their skin looking so youthful and healthy year after year? Could it be a spray tan, plastic surgery, or are they aging backwards like Benjamin Button? None of the above…it’s just makeup and a subtle way of highlighting and contouring.
What you will need to achieve this look:
- A cream or liquid foundation or concealer 1 to 2 shades lighter than your skin tone
- A cream or liquid foundation in 1 to 2 shades darker than your skin tone
- A translucent finishing powder( I recommend Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder $30.00)
- A natural haired brush (I recommend MAC #168 Angled contour Brush $32.00)
ATTENTION: No bronzer or shimmery products required!
You will want to start by placing your lighter colored foundation in the center of your forehead and chin, down the bridge of your nose, under your eyes and on the area beside your nose. Don’t blend just yet. Place the darker shade of foundation around the perimeter of your forehead just below your hairline, the hallow part of your cheekbones, the sides of your nose, and underneath your jawbone.
Refer to the chart below for visual.
After you have placed the foundation, you will then take your natural fibred brush and begin to blend the two shades together, beginning with the lighter shade and finishing with the darker shade. By using a soft brush, you will avoid streaking of the foundation, and the natural hairs will pick up any excess makeup sitting on your skin, giving you an all around more natural look. Once you have finished blending the foundation you will take your translucent finishing powder and dust it over your skin, add a touch of blush, and voila, you are now looking like a better version of yourself, and your skin is red carpet ready.
Vogue/Versace Spring 2010 Fashion Show
Posted on December 17, 2009
Recently I receieved a phone call from my old friends/coworkers over at Ladylash Studios in Delray Beach, FL. They told me they were interested in flying me down to Miami to work with them on the Versace 2010 fashion show hosted by Vogue.
I thought I was being Punk'd. Then I quickly realized Ashton Kutcher probably doesn't know who Christina Lee Adams is....yet, so without hesitation I said I would be thrilled to join them on this amazing opportunity. I hung up the phone in disbelief and started dancing around my kitchen. This quickly stopped after about 30 seconds, I realized MC hammer would be ashamed of my unfortunate imitation of his dance moves.
A few days later, I packed my bags filled with makeup of all sorts and was on my way to Miami. About 24 hours after I arrived Me and Georgio(the key artist) were headed to Casa De Suenos, the beautiful mansion where Vouge was hosting the Fashion Show. We set up our makeup and quickly got started. There were about nine, 6 foot statuesque models coming in one after another to sit in our chair. The makeup and hair team worked effortlessly together to make these girls Versace worthy.. Everyone was so pleased with the final outcome, the girls looked stunning.
I am so grateful to have been apart of such a fantastic show and am truly humbled by the amazing talent of both Ladylash Studios and Petermark Salon.

Makayla Duvall Shoot
Posted on June 27, 2009
Recently I produced a shoot for Makayla Duvall, an up and coming pop artist. I reached out to JJ Cassiere, her booking agent/manager and suggested I put together a shoot for Makayla. I happen to have a little pull with him because... umm... hes my boyfriend! Anyways I had this brilliant idea to create an image for Makayla, she just finished recording her first song... what happens next you ask? A photo shoot to treat this upcoming pop artist, like the star she is going to soon become.
I took it upon myself to get Makayla the works, a Fredrick Fekkai Hairstylist, Prima(my personal colorist, who I love by the way.) Myself, to do the makeup and styling? Yes, I said styling. Well that is if you consider rummaging through my own closet to throw some outfits together, "styling."
Model-check, Hair-check, makeup-check, photographer.... ummm WE NEED A PHOTOGRAPHER. I was so wrapped up into making her look beautiful, I realized I have nobody to take these pictures!! Then thankfully I stumbled upon www.MatthewHanlon.com an excellent photographer who happens to want to start shooting more music related images. I contacted him about the shoot; he said he would be happy to work with us. And the rest is history!
Matthew was great to work with, he was extremely easy going and did a great job as well. I really hope I get the chance to work with him again in the future! I was extremely impressed by Makayla considering it was one of her first shoots, very photogenic that girl. And Makayla's manager well he is quite the character. Over all it was a really successful shoot, and I hope you enjoy the images!
